The VINEYARD Ampelographic Encyclopedia is a comprehensive international database established to accumulate and systematize information on grape varieties and rootstocks. The project aggregates a century of global scientific experience, providing accurate ampelographic descriptions, variety genealogy, resistance indicators, and practical viticultural recommendations. Furthermore, the platform features academic articles on grapevines, their anatomy and species diversity, reference data, and guides designed for mastering the specialized terminology used throughout the Encyclopedia.
In compiling our materials, we rely exclusively on foundational treatises and publications from the scientific community. Our sources include the monumental seven-volume ampelography by Viala and Vermorel «Ampélographie. Traité général de viticulture» (1901–1910) and the classic 10-volume «Ampelography of the USSR», as well as globally recognized compendiums by Pierre Galet and Hermann Goethe, and the pioneering research of A. M. Negrul, M. A. Lazarevsky, P. Ya. Golodriga, Ya. I. Potapenko, and other great scientists.
This multilingual platform serves as a vital digital resource for viticulturists, researchers, and breeders, ensuring a rigorous scientific approach to the study and preservation of global ampelographic heritage.
