General Characteristics
Muskat Donskoi is a universal grape variety bred at the All-Russian Research Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking named after Ya.I. Potapenko. The Muskat Donskoi grape variety is recommended for cultivation in all regions of the Primorsky Krai, southern regions of the Khabarovsk Krai, and in the Amur Oblast*. The vegetative period constitutes 115–120 days. In the south of the Primorsky Krai, the harvest ripens in the first to the beginning of the second decade of September. The average yield per bush is 3.9–4.4 kg (70 centners/ha). The fruits have a universal purpose and are characterized by high taste and commercial qualities.
Morphological Description
- Leaf: medium-sized, ovate, deeply cleft, three-lobed. A sparse bristly pubescence is present on the lower surface of the leaf blade.
- Petiole sinus: closed with an elliptical opening and a sharp base, occasionally open and slit-like.
- Flower: bisexual.
- Bunch: large, dense, cylindrical-conical in shape. The average bunch weight is 150–170 g.
- Berry: small or medium, rounded, black. The pulp is juicy, crunchy, with a distinct muscat aroma. The skin is thick, dense, and separates easily from the pulp.
Agrotechnical Features
The Muskat Donskoi grape variety is characterized by strong shoot growth and satisfactory wood maturation. The share of fertile shoots is 38–52%, and the number of bunches per fertile shoot is 1.4–1.6. Under the conditions of Vladivostok, the variety demonstrates satisfactory winter hardiness and is capable of wintering on its own roots. In northern regions, cultivation on a frost-resistant rootstock is recommended. Resistance to downy mildew (mildew) and fruit rot is assessed as medium. The sugar content of the berry juice in Primorye reaches 17–19% with a titratable acidity of 11–13 g/l. In the homeland of selection, in the Rostov Oblast, the variety accumulates up to 30% sugar with an acidity of 6.7 g/l.
* VINEYARD Note: In the source material, the Muskat Donskoi grape variety is considered for cultivation under the conditions of the Russian Far East.
