Main Characteristics
Latviyskiy Rozoviy (Latvian Pink) is a table grape variety derived from crossing European and American grapes. It was selected by V. T. Boginich from a self-rooted collection at the Far Eastern Experimental Station of the All-Union Institute of Plant Industry (VIR) and by L. T. Slesarenko from a collection of grafted grapes at the Primorsky Fruit and Berry Experimental Station. The variety is recommended for commercial evaluation and home gardening.
The ripening period of the Latviyskiy Rozoviy grape variety is late. In the south of the Primorsky Territory, the growing season lasts 136–144 days; the berries ripen at the end of the first decade of October, though ripening does not occur every year. The yield is stable and ranges from 4 to 8 kg per vine. The attractive clusters are suitable for long-term storage and transportation. The taste is pleasant, sweet and sour, with a harmonious blend of sugar and acidity, as well as a distinctly pronounced strawberry aroma. The sugar content of the juice is 13–15% with a titratable acidity of 13–16 g/L (the high acidity is probably associated with incomplete ripening of berries under the conditions of Primorye)*.
Morphological Description of the Latviyskiy Rozoviy Grape Variety
- Shoot maturity is good. Vine vigor is strong.
- The leaf is large, with linear dimensions of 22×16 cm. The shape of the blade is sharply ovate, weakly three-lobed, and funnel-channeled. The upper side of the leaf is matte, dark green, coarse-netted or coarse-blistered. The lower side is covered with heavy, dirty-ash-colored tomentose pubescence.
- The flower is hermaphroditic (perfect).
- The cluster is of medium size, measuring 15×7 cm. The shape varies from cylindrical to cylindro-conical, and the density is very high (very compact). The weight of the cluster ranges between 90 and 100 g.
- The berry is large, measuring 19×19 mm, with a round shape. The coloration is dark pink and translucent, with a noticeable waxy bloom. The skin is thin, tough, and difficult to separate from the pulp. The pulp is mucilaginous (gelatinous) and separates easily from the seeds.
Agricultural Techniques
The Latviyskiy Rozoviy grape variety is characterized by vigorous vine growth and good maturity of annual shoots. The share of fruitful shoots is 55–60%, and the number of clusters per fruitful shoot varies from 1.3 to 1.6. The variety is characterized by low susceptibility to major fungal diseases and pests (affected weakly).
Due to its late ripening period and high heat requirement, the Latviyskiy Rozoviy grape variety is recommended for cultivation exclusively in regions with a high availability of thermal resources. Cultivation must be carried out using grafted vines on winter-hardy rootstocks. Specific requirements for the length of cane pruning are not provided in the source text.
