Main Characteristics
The grape variety Krasavitsa Tsegleda was bred in Hungary by the breeder Mátyás János through crossing Chasselas Blanche and Chasselas Rose Royale, and it can be classified under the Chasselas varietal type. The variety received relatively small distribution, predominantly in its homeland, and was regionalized in the Ukrainian SSR since 1969 in the Mykolaiv and Odesa regions. Krasavitsa Tsegleda belongs to the mid-season ripening varieties: 138 days pass from the beginning of bud burst to the harvest maturity of berries in Odesa, with a sum of active temperatures of 2687 °C, and harvest maturity occurs in mid-September. The bushes are characterized by medium vigor, and shoot ripening is good.
The yield of the variety is quite high and stable (at the V.E. Tairov Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking, it amounted to 106.6 c/ha on the competitive variety trial plot for the period 1973–1979, and 74.8 c/ha according to data from the Odesa State Variety Trial Plot for 1974–1978). The bunches are predominantly cylindric-conical, of medium density or dense, with an average bunch weight of 223 g. The berry is large, roundish or slightly oval, of a delicate pink color, covered with a thick waxy bloom. The skin is thick and durable, the flesh is meaty-juicy, and the flavor is simple and pleasant. The berry contains 2–3 large seeds. At harvest, the juice sugar content varies from 14.5 to 18 g/100 ml with a low titratable acidity of 4–5 g/l. The organoleptic score of the grapes is 8.2 points. Due to the decorative appearance of the bunches and berries, high transportability, and keeping quality, the Krasavitsa Tsegleda grape variety is valuable for fresh consumption and long-term storage.
Morphological Description of Krasavitsa Tsegleda Grape Variety
- Young shoot (apex): The tip of the shoot is wine-red and slightly pubescent. The apex of the young shoot is light green with dark red leaf margins.
- Leaf: The first leaves are brick-red, with weak araneose pubescence on the upper side. The fully formed leaf is of medium size, roundish, five-lobed, deeply cleft, with narrow funnel-shaped waviness, and dark green. Pubescence on the lower side of the leaf is absent.
- Sinuses and recesses: The upper and lower lateral sinuses are deep, open, wide lyre-shaped, with almost parallel sides. The petiolar sinus is open, narrowly lanceolate, or less frequently closed with a narrow slit-like opening.
- Teeth: The teeth at the ends of the lobes are triangular, with an elongated apex and concave sides. The marginal teeth are large and small, triangular-sawtooth, and convex on one side.
- Bunch: Predominantly cylindric-conical, of medium density or dense. The bunch stem is 3–7 cm long, herbaceous, and red-violet.
- Berry: Large (18–23 mm long, 17–21 mm wide), roundish or slightly oval, of a delicate pink color, with a thick waxy bloom.
- Saplings: Semi-spreading. The tip of the shoots is wine-red and glabrous. Leaves are small, deeply cleft, dark green, three- or five-lobed, with characteristic lateral sinuses. Autumn leaf coloration is yellow.
Features of Agrotechnics
The Krasavitsa Tsegleda grape variety is distinguished by stable productivity. The number of productive shoots on a bush is 59%, the average number of inflorescences on a developed shoot is 0.8, and on a productive shoot is 1.4. The fertility of shoots grown from replacement buds is 18%. For this variety, with a fan-shaped trunkless training method, an optimal load on the bush of 32–35 green shoots is recommended, with pruning of fruiting canes to 4–6 buds, which ensures high yield and the greatest output of marketable products. The variety can be cultivated on a high trunk in areas located south of the isoline of the mean absolute minimum air temperature of minus 19 °C. The Krasavitsa Tsegleda grape variety grows well on the Riparia × Rupestris 101-14 rootstock.
The variety features increased resistance to diseases: it is less affected by mildew and oidium compared to other varieties and shows high resistance to gray rot of berries. However, this grape variety is severely affected by bacterial cancer. Berry shot berries (millerandage) are insignificant. Winter hardiness is rated as medium. It possesses high transportability indicators: the force required for berry detachment is 370 g, and for berry crushing is 1905 g.
