Main Characteristics
The grape variety Dnestrovskii Rozovyi was bred in 1955 by crossing the hybrid form VIR-11-35-20 (Nimrang × Amurskii) with the Matyas Janos variety at the Belgorod-Dnestrovsky experimental station of the Tairov All-Union Research Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking. By its purpose, it belongs to table-wine (universal) varieties. The vegetative period from budburst to harvest maturity of berries lasts 155–160 days, requiring a sum of active temperatures of 2950–3000 °C. The product is characterized by a late ripening period, which occurs in late September or early October under the conditions of Odessa. The grape variety Dnestrovskii Rozovyi is distinguished by a fairly high and stable yield, ranging from 80 to 110 centners per hectare.
Clusters of this variety are large or medium-sized, have a cylindrical or cylindro-conical shape, and are characterized by medium density or increased density. The average bunch weight is 213 g, reaching maximum values of 310 g. Slightly oval pink berries (dark pink under good sun exposure) possess a strong waxy bloom (pruin). The berry skin is thin but durable, the pulp has a fleshy-juicy texture, and the flavor is simple. The sensory evaluation score of fresh grapes ranges from 7.3 to 7.6 points. The sugar accumulation in berry juice reaches 17–21 g/100 ml with titratable acidity levels of 7–9 g/l.
Morphological Description of the Grape Variety Dnestrovskii Rozovyi
- Young shoot (tip): The tip of the young shoot has a green coloration with pinkish leaf edges and is characterized by a medium degree of pubescence.
- Young leaves: Possess a wine-red color and weak araneose pubescence. The petioles of young leaves and shoots are colored wine-red.
- One-year-old mature shoot: It has a dark brown coloration with a distinct reddish tint. Shoot maturity is rated as satisfactory.
- Formed leaf: Leaves are medium or large in size, egg-shaped (ovate), with a 3- or 5-lobed structure. The leaf blade is shallowly lobed, funnel-shaped, with a finely bullate surface and an elongated central lobe. Pubescence on the lower side of the formed leaf is completely absent.
- Leaf incisions and sinuses: Upper sinuses are open, forming an incoming angle or sometimes a lyre-shaped form; lower sinuses are weakly expressed, barely marked. The petiole sinus is open and wide.
- Teeth: Narrowly triangular teeth are located at the ends of the leaf lobes. Marginal teeth are dome-shaped, in some cases triangular with a wide base and convex lateral sides.
- Saplings: Sapling bushes have a semi-prostrate growth habit. Their leaves are rounded, leathery, shiny, equipped with low dome-shaped teeth and wine-red petioles. The autumn color of the leaves becomes a bright wine-red.
Agrotechnical Features
The grape variety Dnestrovskii Rozovyi demonstrates vigorous, powerful bush growth, but exhibits high sensitivity to moisture deficits in the soil, responding to drought with reduced shoot development. The best cultivation results are achieved when planted on southern and southwestern slopes with light loamy or sandy soil types. The use of a high-stem, double-armed cordon training system with a trunk height of 80 to 150 cm and a vine spacing of 3 × 1.5 m is recommended. Short pruning of fruit canes is applied, with a length of 3–6 buds. At the same time, the total bud load per bush should be 60–70 buds and 45–50 shoots.
The share of fruitful shoots in this grape is 65%. The fruiting coefficient is 0.75, while the fruitfulness coefficient reaches 1.29. During periods of unfavorable weather during flowering, the grape variety Dnestrovskii Rozovyi can be prone to flower shedding and significant berry shotting (millerandage). The variety responds negatively to self-pollination. Riparia × Rupestris 101-14 is recommended as the main rootstock. The berry separation force is 240 g, and the crushing resistance is 1150 g, which ensures high transportability of the harvested crop. The grapes are suitable for long-term storage: total losses over 100 days of storage amount to only 5.6–8.8%.
The grape variety Dnestrovskii Rozovyi has a high resistance to downy mildew (mildew), which allows for the complete elimination of sprayings against this disease during the growing season. The berries are also highly resistant to gray rot (botrytis) and can remain on the vine until frosts. Resistance to powdery mildew (oidium) is medium (relative); in epiphytotic years, the bushes require 1–2 sulfur dustings. The grape variety Dnestrovskii Rozovyi is susceptible to root phylloxera and can be damaged by leafrollers (up to 10%). The frost resistance of the variety is relatively high: at a temperature of minus 22 °C, the mortality of main buds under the conditions of the Odessa region ranges from 3.4% to 22.2%, and the total bud mortality on variety testing plots did not exceed 16–34%.
