Main Characteristics
The variety was bred at the Central Republican Botanical Garden of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR through the hybridization of Irsai Oliver × (Malingre précoce + Lignan). It has been zoned since 1983 in the Dnepropetrovsk region. The Kievskii Zolotistyi grape variety ripens very early, four days later than Szabó gyöngye (Zhemchug Saba). According to the mechanical composition of the cluster, it is a typical table grape variety. It is used for fresh consumption. The tasting score is 7.6 points.
The bushes are vigorous. The ripening of the shoots is good. The average yield over four years in the Dnepropetrovsk state variety trial plot under covered cultivation was 81.4 c/ha. The percentage of productive shoots is 50%, the average number of clusters per developed shoot is 0.7, and per productive shoot is 1.4. The sugar content of the juice at harvest is 18.6 g/100 ml, and the acidity is 7–8 g/l.
Morphological Description of the Kievskii Zolotistyi Grape Variety
- Young shoot (shoot tip): the shoot tip and the first leaves of the young shoot are light green, glabrous.
- Annual mature shoot: brown in color.
- Formed leaf: leaves are medium or large in size, five-lobed, medium-lobed. The upper lateral sinuses are of medium depth, open, slit-like or shallow, in the form of an incoming angle; the lower sinuses are shallow, in the form of an incoming angle or absent. The petiolar sinus is open, lyre-shaped. The terminal teeth are triangular, large, acute. The marginal teeth are sharply triangular, small. Pubescence on the lower side of the leaf is completely absent.
- Flower: hermaphroditic.
- Cluster: of medium size, conical, predominantly of medium density. The average cluster weight is 192 g.
- Berry: of medium size, round-oval in shape, golden. It is covered with a weak bloom (pruina). The skin is thin, tough. The flesh is fleshy and juicy, with a pleasant taste and a distinct muscat flavor. Grapes contain 2–3 small seeds per berry.
Cultivation Features
The winter hardiness of the variety is low. In the Dnepropetrovsk region, the Kievskii Zolotistyi grape variety requires mandatory winter protection by covering with soil. Fan, low-standard training of the bushes is recommended. During pruning, 7–9 buds are left on each productive shoot.
The variety is relatively resistant to berry rot (gray mold). It is affected by downy mildew (mildew) to a medium degree.
