Main Characteristics
The new red technical grape variety Krasnostop Karpi was developed by specialists from the Ya.I. Potapenko All-Russian Research Institute for Viticulture and Winemaking and belongs to the varieties of the medium-late ripening period. The duration of the production period is 150–160 days. The grape variety Krasnostop Karpi demonstrates high biological plasticity and yield, which averages 140–150 ц/ha (the average indicator over the years of research was 141 ц/ha with a harvest of 3.2 kg per vine). The bunches are conical, of medium density, with an average weight of 211 grams (the maximum recorded weight is 305 grams). The berries are medium-sized, weighing 1.9–2.0 grams, with a harmonious taste and juicy pulp. The sugar accumulation in the berry juice is high and averages 237 g/dm³ (23.7%) with a titratable acidity indicator of 6.3 g/dm³. The product is recommended for commercial cultivation in Region 6.
Morphological Description of the Grape Variety Krasnostop Karpi
Characteristic morphological features by which the grape variety Krasnostop Karpi is identified:
- Shoot tip and young shoot: the shoot tip is widely open, has a weak anthocyanin coloration and light pubescence. Young leaves are colored yellow-green, and their lower side is characterized by a weak cobwebby pubescence. The young shoot is semi-erect; the internodes have green and red coloration of the dorsal and ventral sides. The number of medium-length tendrils on the shoot is more than three.
- Leaf: fully formed leaves are green, of medium size (averaging 13.1 × 12.7 cm), rounded in shape, single-lobed, and practically unlobed. The upper side is smooth and weakly bullate, while the lower side is covered with a weak bristly pubescence. The coloration of the main veins on both the upper and lower sides is light green. Linear biometric parameters: the average length of the main vein is 11.25 cm, the upper lateral vein is short (9.9 cm), and the lower lateral vein is 7.4 cm. Small values of the venation angles confirm the rounded shape of the leaf blade.
- Incisions and sinuses: lateral incisions are open and barely marked. The petiolar sinus is open, arched or lyre-shaped with a sharp bottom, and the depth averages 3.5 cm.
- Teeth: the terminal teeth of the lobes are short, with convex and straight sides. The marginal teeth are medium-sized, with straight and convex sides.
- Petiole: red in color, equal in length to the main vein of the leaf (the average value is 9.1 cm).
- Flower: bisexual, with five stamens; the length of the stamen filaments slightly exceeds the length of the pistil.
- Mature shoot: smooth, has a yellowish-brown coloration.
Features of Agricultural Technology
The grape variety Krasnostop Karpi is characterized by a medium vigor of vine growth and good maturation of shoots. This grape variety possesses high fruiting indicators: the number of bearing shoots per vine is 77%, the fruiting ratio is 1.6, and the productivity ratio reaches 1.8. The plantations are grown in an uncovered culture without the use of artificial irrigation and fertilization, using a planting scheme of 3.0 × 0.75 meters with vine training of the double-arm cordon type on a trunk with a height of 1 meter. The grape variety Krasnostop Karpi exhibits high resistance to thermal stresses and fungal diseases. Susceptibility to mildew is 1.5 points, to powdery mildew (oidium) is 1.5 points, to black spot is 2 points, and to gray mold is 2 points. The agricultural technology provides for only two preventive treatments per season. The variety can withstand winter frosts down to -25...-27 °C, and also demonstrates good rooting capability of cuttings and high affinity with common rootstocks (in particular, Kober 5BB).
Winemaking and Features of the Finished Product
The harvest of technical grapes is successfully used in micro-winemaking for the production of high-quality dry table natural wines. Processing is carried out according to the classic technological scheme. In terms of the quality characteristics of the finished product, the grape variety Krasnostop Karpi is not inferior to the well-known autochthonous control variety. The organoleptic evaluation of the resulting red wine is consistently high and stands at 8.6–8.7 points according to the results of the tasting committee. The product is characterized by a clean varietal profile, a balanced structure, and a harmonious taste, which confirms the high technological efficiency of the variety in winemaking.
