Key Characteristics
The early-ripening table grape variety Prista was bred by breeders Z. Zankov, I. Todorov, and D. Mitev in 1972 as a result of crossing the parental pair Bolgar x Mimoza. The variety was officially recognized by the State Variety Commission in 1988. Full ripening of the harvest under Bulgarian conditions occurs around August 10, which is a week ahead of the ripening dates of the control variety Cardinal. The grape variety Prista is characterized by stable productivity, with average yields in vineyards reaching 16 tons per hectare.
The vines possess medium vigor. Large clusters with an average weight of 380 grams develop on the shoots. The shape of the clusters is cylindric-conical, frequently forming a distinct lateral wing. The cluster structure is semi-dense (of medium density). Berry drop and millerandage (shot berries) are not characteristic of this variety.
Technological Properties and Viticultural Features
The berries are large, oblong in shape, with the average weight of a single berry reaching 5.3 grams. The fruit dimensions are 23.1x18 mm. The skin is white (yellow-green), matte, covered with a thick pruinosity (waxy bloom). The pulp has a pronounced crunchy texture. The taste is refined, with a distinct, delicate muscat aroma. Upon reaching consumer maturity, the variety Prista accumulates an average of 16.2% sugars with a titratable acidity level of the berry juice at 4 g/l.
The grape variety Prista possesses strong commercial potential due to very high transportability values of the harvested clusters. The grapes are suitable for obtaining ultra-early table production both in open-ground conditions and in plastic greenhouses. The plants demonstrate increased resistance to gray mold damage. Mixed pruning (Guyot system) is recommended for cultivation, and SO-4, Rupestris du Lot, and other standard rootstock forms are suitable as rootstocks.
