Origin and Viticultural Significance
The rootstock variety Prezent was bred at the All-Russian Research Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking named after Ya.I. Potapenko, under patent No. 4133. The authors are I.N. Syan and M.I. Brezhneva. The variety was obtained through the hybridization of Fercal with a selection line from the family (Amurskiy × (Riparia × Cinerea)). This grapevine rootstock is designed to protect vineyards from phylloxera. It exhibits high affinity with scion varieties of European-Amur-American origin and demonstrates good graft union development in both bench and green grafting.
Ampelographic Description of the Rootstock Variety Prezent
Morphological characteristics of vegetative organs for variety identification:
- Young shoot (apex): The apex is half-closed and white due to dense pubescence. The growing shoot features cobwebby pubescence and displays anthocyanin coloration on the sun-exposed side.
- Young leaves: Entire, cordate, and infundibuliform. The lower lobes slightly overlap. The blade is strongly bullate and pubescent on both sides.
- Annual shoot (cane): The cane is circular in cross-section and dense. The autumn coloration of the bark is light gray.
- Mature leaf: Very large, three-lobed, and weakly lobed. The upper surface is glossy and strongly bullate. The lower surface features sparse bristly pubescence.
- Petiole: Long, but shorter than the central vein of the leaf, with sparse pubescence.
- Petiolar sinus: Elliptical, with weakly overlapping lobes.
- Inflorescence (flower): The grapevine rootstock Prezent has a functionally female flower type. It forms small clusters with black berries. The juice is intensely colored.
Nursery Management and Agronomic Characteristics
Vines of the rootstock variety Prezent are characterized by medium vigor. Wood maturity reaches 80-85%. The yield of standard cuttings from the mother vineyard is 70-80 thousand units per hectare. The rooting rate of cuttings is 55-60%, which exceeds the performance of the standard Kober 5BB rootstock. Resistance to fungal diseases is high, rated at 1.5-2 points. Susceptibility to the root form of phylloxera is 1 point, and to the foliar form is 2 points (infestation occurs without deformation of the leaf blade).
