Key characteristics
Ferronovsky is a mid-early table grape variety (*Vitis vinifera*) distinguished by its high berry quality and early ripening period. It is primarily cultivated in Primorsky Krai, Russia. The vine has medium vigor; shoots mature well (65–75%). Fruitfulness is stable with 55–62% fruitful shoots bearing an average of 1.4–1.5 clusters weighing about 115 grams each. Berries reach full maturity at the end of August to early September (mid-early season).
The berries are large (medium to large), oval-shaped, light green with a delicate pinkish hue. They have a thin skin covered with a strong waxy bloom. The flesh is very juicy and melting, offering a harmonious sweet-sour flavor that is prized for its freshness and balance.
Ampelographic description of Ferronovsky
- Leaves are medium-sized, three-lobed, slightly dissected, rounded in shape. Upper lateral notches are small, open, typically forming an acute angle or slit-like indentation. The petiolar sinus is narrow, open, with a sharp bottom.
- Flowers are hermaphroditic.
- Clusters are large, cylindro-conical with pronounced branching; density varies from loose to very loose.
Cultivation features
It is recommended to grow Ferronovsky on rootstocks as it exhibits high winter hardiness only when grafted. Medium-length pruning of fruiting canes (5–8 eyes) is advised. To ensure good shoot maturation, crop load regulation is necessary.
