Main Characteristics
The grape variety Misket rusenski was bred by Bulgarian breeders I. Todorov, Z. Zankov, and D. Mitev. The hybrid combination was obtained in 1973 by crossing the parental forms Muscat Hamburg and Cardinal. Official recognition by the State Variety Commission (DSK) took place in 1986. According to its intended use, the Misket rusenski grape variety belongs to the dessert (table) group. The harvest ripens at an ultra-early date (late July – early August), which is 20 days ahead of the benchmark Cardinal variety.
The developed loose cluster has average dimensions of 19x9.9 cm and an average weight of 300 grams. The berries are large, oval in shape, with an average weight of 4.8 grams and dimensions of 19.4x17.3 mm. The skin coloration is dark. The anatomical structure of the berry is characterized by the following proportions: the share of pulp is 94.4%, skin — 3.88%, and seeds — 1.72%. The texture of the pulp is crunchy. The flavor qualities are harmonious, with a pronounced distinct muscat aroma. By the time of harvest, the Misket rusenski variety demonstrates sugar accumulation at a level of 16% with low indicators of titratable juice acidity — 4.3 g/l.
Viticultural and Agro-technical Features
The average yield of commercial plantations is recorded at 12–13 tons per hectare. For establishing vineyards and performing grafting, rootstocks SO-4 and Chasselas 41-V are recommended. When training the vines, viticulturists prescribe the use of mixed pruning of fruiting canes. The Misket rusenski grape variety stands out for its increased winter hardiness among representatives of its species and possesses a high natural capacity for vine recovery after winter damage.
The plants demonstrate excellent resistance to berry infection by grey rot. The physical and mechanical properties of the crop ensure high transportability: the force required to crush a berry is 1300 grams, and the berry detachment strength from the pedicel is 480 grams. The Misket rusenski variety is recommended for organizing regular supplies of early dessert products to the domestic market and possesses high potential for commercial export shipments.
