Main Characteristics
The grape variety Pamid Ruse 1 is an improved clone isolated in Bulgaria by the breeder Ivan Todorov in 1978. The selection work was conducted using individual selection from the parental population of the original Pamid cheren variety. In 1989, the Pamid Ruse 1 grape variety was officially recognized by the State Variety Commission (DSK). In terms of utilization, the form is universal, combining pronounced table qualities with suitability for winemaking. The harvest reaches consumer maturity in mid-September (between September 10 and 15), which is 10 days ahead of the baseline Pamid cheren.
The developed conical cluster often has a lateral wing, and its average weight is 260 grams with dimensions of 16.6x10.3 cm. The clusters feature a high degree of visual uniformity. The berries are medium, oval in shape, measuring 17x14.8 mm, with an average weight of 3.2 grams. According to morphological indicators, the berries of this clone are 14% larger and 30% heavier than the original parental form. The skin has a specific rusty-red coloration. The flavor qualities are harmonious, fully corresponding to the classic varietal type of the Pamid grape. At the stage of consumer maturity, the Pamid Ruse 1 variety provides sugar accumulation at a level of 19.2% with titratable juice acidity indicators of 3.92 g/l.
Viticultural, Agro-technical and Winemaking Features
The vines in plantations are characterized by a large vigor of shoot growth. The average yield stands at 18 tons per hectare. During multi-year variety trials, the Pamid Ruse 1 grape variety demonstrated stable resistance to physiological disorders: inflorescences and ovaries do not suffer from shattering, and the berries are not prone to the development of shot berries (millerandage).
The specific features of the anatomical structure and berry build ensure an increased technological recovery of wine material—the wine yield indicator for this clone is 2.8% higher than that of the baseline Pamid cheren variety. The harvested crop is recommended both for fresh dessert consumption and for industrial processing to produce high-quality table wines.
