Main Characteristics
The seedless grape variety Rusensko bez seme was bred in Bulgaria by the breeders I. Todorov, Z. Zankov, and K. Stoev. The crossing of the initial parental forms Bolgar and Hybrid VI-4 was performed in 1969. In 1981, the Rusensko bez seme grape variety received official recognition from the State Variety Commission (DSK). The harvest reaches consumer maturity around September 20, which is 20 days ahead of the ripening schedule of the benchmark Sultana variety.
The average weight of the conical, semi-dense cluster is 300 grams, with dimensions of 16x11.3 cm. The berries are large, oblong in shape, measuring 19.1x14.7 mm, with an average weight of 3.2 grams. The thick skin has a yellow-green coloration that acquires a slight pink tint when the crop overripens. The pulp has a buttery texture with a neutral, harmonious flavor. The seed rudiments remain in an embryonic state and are completely imperceptible during consumption. At the consumer maturity stage, the Rusensko bez seme variety demonstrates sugar accumulation at a level of 20.3% with a titratable juice acidity of 7.9 g/l. An optimal balance of sugar and acidity ensures high flavor profiles.
Viticultural and Agro-technical Features
Plantations are characterized by a medium vigor of vine growth. The average yield of the variety stands at 14 tons per hectare. Rootstocks Rupestris du Lot and SO-4 are recommended for establishing vineyards. Mixed pruning of fruiting canes is applied when training the vines. The Rusensko bez seme grape variety possesses increased frost resistance within its species and exhibits good natural resistance to grey rot infections.
The berries are firmly attached to the pedicel and are characterized by high mechanical strength parameters: the force required to crush a berry is 1100 grams, and the force required for detachment from the pedicel is 460 grams. These technological properties determine excellent suitability for long-distance transport without loss of commercial appearance. The Rusensko bez seme variety is a versatile dessert product and is recommended for fresh consumption as well as for the production of high-quality raisins.
